Set up a formula (in grams) for 5 pound (avoir.) glycerogelatin containing 10 parts by weight of zinc oxide, 15 parts by weight of gelatin, 40 parts by weight of glycerine, and 35 parts by weight of water.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The weight of glycerogelatin = 5 pound

1 pound = 453.5 gm

5 pound = 5 x 453.5 = 2267.9 gm

Let take the part by weight of glycerogelatin be x , then

10 parts by weight of zinc oxide = 10x

15 parts by weight of gelatin = 15x

40 parts by weight of glycerine = 40x

35 parts by weight of water = 35x

The sum of total parts by weight = 2267.9gm

S0, 10x + 15x + 40x + 35x = 2267.9

100x = 2267.9

x = 22.6

S0, 10 part by weight of zinc oxide = 10 x 22.6 = 226 gm

15 part by weight of gelatin = 15 x 22.6 = 339 gm

40 part by weight of glycerine = 40 x 22.6 = 904 gm

35 part by weight of water = 35 x 22.6 = 791 gm
