Nutrition is the basic needs of all living being throughout the life cycle to be healthy. The basic elements like carbohydrates, protein ,fats , vitamins ,minerals and water in right composition is considered to be a balanced diet. The demands and requirements changes right from conception to old-age .Extra calories and extra nutrients are required during pregnancy and lactation because one life (mother) has to protect herself and also the baby with enough nutrients .If this is lacking during pregnancy it can impact the fetal growth and cause birth defects from physical disabilities to mental disability .Similarly if the nutrients is lacked during lactation it can hamper the growth of the baby leading to malnutrition and developmental delays. Hence a well planned and complete nutrition is required for healthy life.
