Kathy a G3P3 mom that calls the OB unit. She is 7 days postpartum and reports she has a 100.2 temperature as since yesterday. She reports a lochia rubra using 6 pads through the day. She feels like her discharge has a “funny smell” today. What are your concerns as her nurse and what would you include in her plan of care? What are the characteristics of lochia in the post partum period?

  • Vaginal discharge

  • Hemorrhoids and constipation
  • Urinary or fecal incontinence
  • Postpartum depression
