The organism Klebsiella pneumoniae is from an isolated pure culture from a clean catch urine of a 42 years old diabetic woman with significant bacteriuria (>=105 CFU/ml).
How would you discuss this? the biochemical test used where ONPG, motility, PAD,citrate, dnase plate, tsi and glucose and the organism was found Klebsiella pneumoniae.
How do you draw relevant conclusions as to the significance of the isolate?
The organism that is isolated from the urine culture shows more colonies which refers to significant bacteriuria. The laboratory finding shows that >105(10 to the power of 5)colony forming units per ml mostly indicates urinary tract infections and also the organism which is confirmed is Klebsiella pneumoniae which is one of the major organisms for UTI in older people..Asymptomatic UTI normally shows <105cfu/ml.So it is clearly a relevant result as the woman is also a diabetic and chances of UTI is also more.
