The IV ordered is 1000 mL D-10-W IV q12h. The drop factor is 10 gtts/mL.
a. Calculate the flow rate in mL/h.
b. Calculate the flow rate in gtts/min.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Flow Rate(in ml/h)=Total ml/Total hours(h)

= 1000ml/12h =83.33 = 83 ml/h

Flow Rate(in gtts/min)=[volume of infusion(ml)*drop factor]/time infusion(in min)

                                        = [1000ml*10gtts/ml] / [12 hr *60 min] = 10000/720

                                         =13.888 = 14 gtts/ml
