Answer #1

Since according to researchers 40 percent of those with COPD suffer from depression a Social Worker can specifically contribute to the treatment of a patient who has been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease by having a multidisciplinary approach she can counsel the patient for an appropriate consultation with the physician for medication, a physiotherapist for Pulmonary rehabilitation to improve exercise capacity, breathlessness and fatigue, health-related quality of life and the sense of control that individuals have over their condition. She can use the family and friends circle to provide the emotional support to the patient.
