A Pharmacist can specifically contribute to the treatment of a patient who has been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by giving the him the medications that have been prescribed by the physician such as the short-acting bronchodilators such as;
albuterol
levalbuterol
ipratropium
albuterol/ipratropium (Combivent)
In an emergency situation or for quick relief.
They can give the Corticosteroids that reduce inflammation in the body, making air flow easier in the lungs such as; (Flovent)
Long-acting bronchodilators can also be given to treat COPD over a longer period of time such as;
aclidinium (Tudorza), arformoterol (Brovana) etc
