I need more information regarding the effects of wrong IV medication, leading to death in the US- such as a certain case or inciden, or just in general.
EFFECT OF WRONG IV MEDICATION:-
(A) Infiltration:- it is the infusion of medication outside the
intravascular space, into the surrounding soft tissue.
(B) Hematoma:- it occurs due to leakage of blood from the vessel
into the surrounding soft tissue.
(C) Air embolism:- it occurs due entering of air in the vein via
the IV administration set.
(D) Extravascular injection:- a drug adminitrated in Extravascular
soace may result in pain, poor absorption and tissue damage.
(E) PHLEBITIS:- it is inflammation of the vein resulting from the
pH of the agent being administration of the IV.
(F) INTRAARTERIAL INJECTION:-
-It may cause arterial spasm and eventual loss of limb, from
gangrene.
