Preeclampsia

It is known as the pregnancy induced hypertension. It is highly life-threatening condition that usually occurs late in the second trimester or in the third trimester.

Causes

  1. Loss of plasma protein
  2. Osmotic pressure
  3. Fluid shift outside vascular compartment

Signs and symptoms

  1. Sudden weight gain
  2. Oedema
  3. Hemoconcentration
  4. Low urine output

Nursing management

  • Check and record BP frequently
  • Provide prescribed antihypertensive drugs
  • Provide psychological support to the patient
  • Asses deep tendon reflexes
  • Assess fetal heart rate
  • Bed rest and position in one side
  • Take seizure precautions
  • Test urine for protein
