INTERMITTENT CLAUDICATION:-
- Muscular pain.
- not present at rest, comes on walking a particular distance, called
claudication distance.
- quickly relieved by resting.
- it is repetative.
PATHOPHYSIOLOGY:-
- it involves-
(a) reduction in blood flow to peripheral tissues.
(b) changess in the metabolic function of skeletal muscle, due to
repetitive episodes of ischemia.
- There are clear mitochondrial changes and a shift in muscle fiber
type that occur in lower extremity PAD.
- blood flow is lower in lower extremity including calf muscle
microvascular perfusion, skeletal muscle mitochondrial function and
burden of atherosclerotic diseas
-all of the above causes intermittent claudication.
