Dapagliflozin is a sodium-glucose cotranspoter inhibitor. It reduces reabsorption of filtered glucose and lowers the renal threshold for glucose, resulting in increased urinary glucose excretion.

Saxagliptin is a dipeptidyl- peptidase inhibitor. It slows the inactivation of incretin hormones causing a rise in incretin bloodstream concentration, which lead to reduced fasting and postprandial glucose concentration.

For monitoring concentrationbof drugs in body fluids, usually plasma is used. Therapeutic monitoring involves not only measuring drug concentration but also clinical interpretation of results.
