The primary issue regarding access within the Canadian healthcare system includes; as Canadians mostly have a timely access to world-class care for urgent and emergent problems like heart attacks, strokes and cancer care. However in the case of many less urgent problems; typically wait period is as long as many months or even years. For example; patients requiring the hip or knee replacements, shoulder or ankle surgery, cataract surgery or a visit with a specialist for a consultation have to often wait far longer than is recommended. For assignment to a long-term care facility, many seniors who are not acutely ill also wait in hospitals, for months and, on occasion, years. Further to aggravate the issue there are systemic barriers such as the problems with eligibility and entitlement
