The issues surrounding selection and implementation of new types of technology in nursing such as the implementation of the EHR (electronic health record) may be; based on the public demand, i.e. the end user demand and physician reaction which in turn may depend on potential perceived privacy concerns among patients. The other issues may be high upfront acquisition costs, high maintenance costs, and disruptions to workflows contributing to temporary losses in productivity, the result of learning a new system.
