What is naloxone? What is it used for and how does it work? Does your state allow for it to be purchased without a prescription? What are your thoughts on this? Do you think that having it readily available will increase or decrease the mortality caused by overdose?
NALOXONE :- naloxone is an opioid antagonist used to reversal of
ooioid overdose, including respiratory depression.
-Naloxone is also used for diagnosis of acute opioid overdose and
blood pressure support in septic shock.
MECHANISM OF ACTION:-
-Naloxone binds to opioid receptors in the brain in place of opioid
drugs.
-When opioids are prevented from binding to these receptors, the
brain does not flood with dopamine due to the intoxicating
substance and temporarily reverse an overdose.
-. The effect of naloxone begin within 2-5 minutes after the
medication is administered.
