Explain which LeFort fracture would typically require jaw wiring for stabilization and why?
LeFort fractures are transverse fractures of the midface. There are three types of LeFort fractures; LeFort fracture1,LeFort fracture2,LeFort fracture3.
Le Fort 1fracture is the separation of hard palate from the upper maxilla .
Le Fort 2 fractures are fractures of nasal bones, medial anterior orbital walls, orbital floor and transversely fracture the posterior maxilla and pterygoid plates.
LeFort 3 fractures are transverse fractures in which it separates the maxilla from the skull base.
Usually LeFort 1 fracture requires fixation with wires as this does not involve zygomatic bones. The main concern here is the allignment and fixation of dentition. This is done by intermaxillary fixation through wires.
