Case Study 3 Situation for Assessment Mark W. is a 28-year-old fast food manager who was involved in a motorcycle accident when driving home from work. When the paramedics arrived, he was unresponsive, his breathing had an irregular pattern and depth, and blood was coming from his nose. He was thrown from his motorcycle and found lying on the pavement. A cervical collar was applied, and he was transported to the nearest trauma center. You are the nurse conducting the admission assessment.

Being a nurse assessment is the basic need for starting a treatment or care.Thw following assessment has to be done

  • Vital signs (Temperature, pulse respiration,BP)
  • Check blood glucose level
  • Colour of nose bleed to rule out the location of injury
  • Emergency team as to be called
  • Proper position to be maintained
  • Physical examination to assess bruises, cut, fracture etc.,
  • Collect personal history from relative

Some of the following orders are likely expected from the physician are

  • Blood investigation (Complete blood count, random blood sugar,St.creatinine, blood group, triple H test HIV,HCV Hepatitis B virus)
  • ECG
  • Chest X-ray
  • Head x ray
  • CT Brain
  • MRI full body
  • Urine routine
  • Moving patient to intensive care unit
  • References to orthopedics doctors
  • ENT Specialist reference
