Otitis media

It is a group of inflammatory disease of middle ear

1)They present with symptoms like ear pain,fever , hearing loss, cough,nasal discharge,ear discharge

2)Here the eustachian tube becomes swollen or blocked and traps fluid in middle ear

3) Antibiotic to treat infection ( Amoxicillin or Amoxicillin- clavulanate or penicillin derivatives) To be given for 7 day twice or thrice a day depending upon the severity and age

Otitis externa

This is also called as swimmer's ear .It is the swelling of ear canal

2 It presents with ear pain, swelling of ear canal, occasionally decreased hearing,pain on movement of outer ear,high fever in severe cases

3) Acetic acid ear drops can be used as preventive measure.

Acute cases with antibiotics ( ofloxacin)

Steroid drops in addition to treat inflammation

Pain killer ( ibuprofen)
