The juxtaglomerular apparatus is responsible for:

Select one:

a. The secretion of drugs

b. The secretion of acids and ammonia

c. Reabsorption of organic molecules, vitamins and water

d. Regulating the rate of filtrate formation and controlling systemic blood pressure

e. Regulating the rate of filtrate formation and controlling blood pH

Homework Answers

Answer #1

answer is option D

The juxtaglomerular apparatus is a particular structure formed by the distal convoluted tubule and the glomerular afferent arteriole. It is situated near the vascular pole of the glomerulus . Its main function is to regulate blood pressure and the filtration rate of the glomerulus. Juxtaglomerular cells secrete renin. Two important function of this cells are :-

  • They monitor blood pressure, by measuring how much the arteriole wall is stretched.
  • They monitor the concentration of sodium and chloride ions in the filtrate of the macula densa.
