The effect of antidiuretic hormone ( ADH ) on the kidney is to:
Select one:
a. Increase the permeability of the distal nephron to water
b. Increase permeability of the proximal nephron to water
c. Increase the excretion of Na+
d. Increase the excretion of water
e. Increase the diameter of the renal artery
Answer is (A)
ADH works on distal convulated tubule and collecting duct to maintain volume and osmolarity.
When ADH is released it increases transcription and isertion of Aquaporin-2 channel in the DCT and CT which leads to absorption of water down to its concentration gradient into the nephron and back to blood stream.
It decrease water excretion. It do not play much role in electrolytes but little bit it is considered to possess Antinatriuretic character.
