?1. Overuse of antibiotic therapy has led to antibiotic resistance and increase in multidrug resistant bacteria(superbugs). Which in turn has led to rising cost of care.

?2. Antibiotic stewardship includes leadership commitment, accountability, drug expertise, action, tracking, reporting and education. Following these aspects will enhance appropriate use of antibiotics and improved patient care with decrease in antibiotic resistance.

?3. Considerations for prescribing antibiotics for children : Do not prescribe antibiotics for viral infection; Use ear drops instead of oral antibiotics for ear infections.For elderly: Do not treat if patient has bacteria in urine unless patient has signs of urinary tract infection; consider drug interaction since elderly may be taking many drugs for their other illness.
