• Primary prevention: Prevention of a disease or injury before hand is called as primary prevention. It includes preventing exposure, changing unhealthy or unsafe behaviour and protection against the disease or injury. Ex ample: education about healthy lifestyle, immunization, use of helmets and seat belts.
• Secondary prevention: The reduction in the results of a disease or injury is called as secondary prevention. It involves early detection and prompt treatment. Example: Diagnostic tests and screening programs.
• Tertiary prevention: It includes rehabilitation. Example: chronic disease management, vocational and physical rehabilitation.
