Answer #1

Having diabetes before pregnancy causes certain risks like birth defect, prematurity, large or small baby, jaundice and hypoglycemia in baby after birth, miscarriage and high blood glucose levels during pregnancy. These can be minimized by simply controlling the blood glucose levels. If the patient is taking tablets to control diabetes it should be changed to insulin. During the earlier months of conception, the dosage of insulin should be doubled and during the last month it should be reduced.
