A 21-year old student came to emergency room due to blurred vision and loss of ability to distinguish color. He is taking only an antifungal medication. Which of the following could result in these effects? Does it require any additional treatment and why?
Griseofulvin
Nystatin
Voriconazole
Flycytosine
Does he require any additional treatment and why? _____
Ans-
The vision problems and the ability to distinguish colour is due to the VORICONAZOLE which is an azole derivatives and act as antifungal this side effect occurs due to acting on the optical receptor and acting on cytochrome p450 and due to dryness of eye so at the therapy of VORICONAZOLE vision changes may occure.
Basically this side effect is temporary after the therapy side effects are gone so in Normal cases patient does not need an additional treatment but in some cases patient can take therapy of normal eye drops which can moisture eye like cellulose eye drop .
And this treatment is needed due to the blurred vision of VORICONAZOLE and can affect normal vison so eyedrop therapy is necessary
Hope you understand the answer.
