Describe how cells regulate the amount of water they contain.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Cells regulate the amount of water in it by a specific process called as osmosis.

For instance when the nature if the cells turns to be hypertonic (concentrated form with high solute) in order to dilute it and maintains its osmolarity water from the external area enters the cell through a semi permeable membrane

In case of hypotonic nature of cell(decreased concentration with low solute) the water in order to maintain the molarity the water enters the cell

The movement of water bu thus process is the water potential. The water potential is increased in hypertonic solution, decreased in hypotonic solution and ot is neutral in isotonic solution.

Cancer cells do not respond normally to cues that regulate growth. As a result, cancerous cells grow and divide uncontrollably, requiring large amounts of nucleotides to support their high rate of nucleic acid synthesis and NADPH for the synthesis of fatty acids and for cell survival under stress conditions. Considering glycolysis, gluconeogenesis and the pentose phosphate pathway, describe the flow of glucose 6-phosphate to address the needs of cancerous cells.
