1.Gastric ulcer:

  • occurs in stomach
  • Epigastric pain occurs 1- 2 hours after eating
  • Hematemesis and melena can be seen
  • Heart burn chest discomfort and early satiety are commonly seen
  • In elder patient it can cause gastric carcinoma

Duodenal ulcer:

  • Occurs in duodenum
  • Epigastric pain 2-5 hours after eating
  • Can cause melena and hematochezia
  • heartburn,chest discomfort are less common
  • Pain may awaken patient during night.

2. Suggest patient to avoid food like alcohol,caffeinated drinks,spicy food or fatty food.

Stop smoking and also reduce stress level.
