Due to this many doctors shun primary care and opt for the highly paid specialties, where they have an opportunity an incentives to give expensive treatments and order for tests that are expensive, which act as an important driver of rising health care costs (Bach, 2011). Thus if government subsidies for medical education were reduced it will lead to a shortage of primary care physicians.
