The nutritional formula Isomil is supplied in 4, 8, and 12 oz cans. How would you prepare 6 oz of 2/3 strength Isomil solution. What size of can(s) would you use in order to minimize the amount of discarded Isomil?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Order 2/3 strength of isomil 180ml (6oz (1oz = 30ml))

Step1: Desired strength x Amount of solution = X (Solute)

            2/3 x 180 = 120ml

You will need 120ml of Isomil

Step 2: Amount of solution – Amount of solute = Solvent (Amount needed to dissolve)

            180 – 120 = 60ml

Therefore 60ml of water to be added to 120ml Isomil for 6oz of 2/3 strength Isomil.

So its apt to choose 4oz(120ml) Isomil can to reduce wastage.

An automated machine for a soft drink company is calibrated to fill cans with 12-ounces of soda. Occasionally, the machine drifts out of calibration and will not fill the cans with the correct amount of soda. Suppose the machine goes out-of-calibration during a batch run of 12,000. Technicians on site indicate that (about) 600 cans were underfilled before repairs could correct the problem. Assume: x ≡ number of under-filled cans of soda in a randomly selected six-pack. S ≡ a...
