One of the causative factor for cope is smoking and air pollution,because of this there is continuous bronchial inflammation and irritation this inturn leads to increased secretion of mucus, edema, cough and spams of bronchus.

Another causative factor is deficiency of alpha 1 anti trypsin and this leads to breakdown of elastin in the connective tissue of lungs and this inturn leads to destruction of alveolar septa and air way instability.

Because of these two causes there is airway obstruction, difficulty in breathing and reccurent infection.
