Standardized nursing language (SNL) is a commonly-understood set of terms used to describe the clinical judgments involved in assessments (nursing diagnoses), along with the interventions, and outcomes related to the documentation of nursing care.

Standardization is done because it is a scientific approach, the diagnosing phase involves a nurse making an educated judgment about a potential or actual health problem with a patient. Multiple diagnoses are sometimes made for a single patient.
