what are clinical implications for long act or extented release drugs

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer: The extended release drugs are considered to be one of the good doasage of drug as it reduces the toxicity. It also enhances the efficacy of drug and treatment. It enhances the patient compliance and reduces the dosage frequency. But the major problem with this kind of drug release is the standardization. This causes wide variation in the pharmacokineticspharmacokinetics parameters. So, it is important to monitor the drug dosage as well as the therapeutic effects of the drugs. The another reason is the drug interaction. Hence the two consecutive dose can not be given.

There are a number of drugs in clinical development that bind to LFA-1 and modulate its interaction with ICAM-1. These drugs do not prevent the binding of LFA-1 to ICAM, but rather increase the dissociation rate of LFA-1 from ICAM-1 (i.e. make LFA-1 fall off of ICAM-1 faster). What effect would such a drug have on T-cell function? Speculate for what conditions/pathologies this drug might be beneficial. Explain

Certain drugs act as ionophores, these drugs cause the thylakoid membrane to become permeable to hydrogen ions (H+). This means that when the drug is present H+ can simply pass through the membrane on their own without a protein like a nonpolar molecule does normally.   When you treat chloroplasts with this ionophore, the light reactions stop making ATP but continue to make NADPH. Explain this result.
