The control of body temperature in humans is a good example of homeostasis in a biological system. Concisely describe the process of body temperature regulation (in 80-100 words).
The process of body temperature regulation is called homeostasis and it is controlled by endotherms such as humans through the circulatory system. This system is under the control of the hypothalamus as the stimulation of the anterior hypothalamus begins a thermolytic response thereby resulting in a decrease in the body temperature. While stimulation of the posterior hypothalamus leads to a thermogenic response that brings about an elevation in body heat and its conservation. When the body temperature falls the blood vessels constrict so that the heat is conserved, sweat glands do not secrete and shivering takes place to generate heat. When the body temperature increases the blood vessels dilate so that the heat is a loss, sweat glands secrete sweat so that heat is lost to the environment through evaporation and body temperature brought back to the normal.
