Mechanism of action : inhibits reuptake of serotonin

Indications/ uses: depressive and anxiety disorder, OCD

Adverse effects : nausea, vomitting, headache, heartburns, dizziness, palpitation, ejaculation disorder, menstrual problems, fatigue, abdominal pain, flatulence, joint pain, weight gain

Nursing interventions: monitor patient for any behavioural changes, suicidal attempts and clinical rorsening. Educate caregivers to watch carefully for any behaviour changes and report immediately.

Educate patient to take drug as prescribed and avoid alcohol till continuing the drug.

Educate patient about adverse effects and report immediately if severe headache, vomiting, unexplained bleeding or sexual dysfunction occurs.
