We must always take extra precaution when it comes to collecting blood in newborns, therefore extra assistance is always required in such cases in order to immobilize baby to prevent from any such accidents, however in the given case the nurse or the phlebotomist should withdraw the needle immediately and apply pressure, we should not apply any bandaid, as baby's skin is very sensitive and may harm the nearby skin surface. Afterwards we can apply bandage overy a gauze piece and elevate the area.
