Prepare a discussion relating to the potential types and advantages of wearable technologies for the healthcare of the chronically ill patient. What are the advantages/disadvantages relating to costs, quality and patient safety? Please provide references.

Answer: The use of the advanced technology in the healthcare industries has improved the method of treatment and delivery of the care. The wearable devices plays major role in uplifting the health status of the patient as well as people. There are many advantages for the chronically ill patients such as:

  • The wearable watches or the devices can be used to monitor the heart rate, body temperature as well as some of the vital signs.
  • It is easy to wear.
  • It can be used for the drug monitoring.
  • Reduce the adverse effects of the drugs.

Although the technology has been found to be user friendly and has many advantages, there are many limitations. Some of the disadvantages are:

  • Not everyone can afford it as it is costly.
  • Most of the people are not that much advanced to operate the devices
  • These devices has some kind of frequency which could interfere with the patient's health conditions.
