If 5 mL of an elixir containing 3 mg/mL of a drug is bioequivalent to a 21-mg tablet having a bioavailability factor of 0.52, what is the bioavailability factor (F) of the elixir (nearest hundredth)?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

In the given question, first of all, we have to find out the total amount of drug in elixir, which os 5ml*3mg/ml=15mg

The given tabletis 21mg with a bioavailability factor of 0.52. This, the amount of drug bioavailable from the tablet=21mg*0.52=10.92mg

As, both these formulations are bioequivalent,

Amount of drug biovailable must be the same for both(10.92mg)

Thus, bioavailability factor of the elixir will be given by drug bioavailable/amount of drug in the elixir = 10.92mg/15mg=0.728

Thus, the bioavailabilityfactor of elixir is 0.73
