What does global burden of a disease mean? Explain how global health researchers tend to measure how significant a health issue is (that is, its global burden)?

Global burden of the disease means the premature deaths and disability caused by a particular disease, injury or risk factors.

Global burden of disease is the impact of disease on the health of population which leads to financial and physical losses.

A disease can be identified as global burden by assessing the financial funding involved in the disease, mortality, morbidity and disability caused by the disease. Assessment of harm done by the disease on the wuality of life is also important.

Two measures to identify the disease as a global birden are :

1. quality-adjusted life years

2. disability-adjusted life years

Both the above measures assess the years lost due to a disease.
