You are a counselor conducting a group session when a patient tearfully states he beats his 8 year old daughter when he is intoxicated. He appears remorseful and contrite about his behavior. He states it only happens when he has been drinking. What action, if any, do you take after group is finished?

Answer: Excessive alcohol consumption causes unconsciousness, unable to think clearly, poor decision maing skills, liver diseases as well as many other diseases. Hence in the above mentioned case, the patient becomes agressive due to excessive drinking or alcohol consumption. Hence this causes him to beat his daughter. It is important to provide counseling to the client as well as it is important to create awareness about the alcohol addiction. The patient should be provided with the statements to quit the alcohol consumption and should be encouraged to avoid drinking. It is also important that his daughter should be provided treatment, counseling as it could that the daughter may be suffering from any mental trauma due to this habit of his father.
