The main treatment for Bacterial meningitis is with antibiotics which can reduce the death rate to around 30%. Antibiotics have to be administered before starting severe complications. Intravenous administration is the better method than oral because oral administration can cause gastro intestinal problems. Commonly used antibiotics are cephalosporins, mainly Claforan (cefotaxime) and Rocephin (ceftriaxone).
Other major treatments are with corticosteroids, neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) and osmotic diuretics at the time of increased intra cranial pressure.
