Describe the intracellular and extracellular mechanisms for buffering changes in body pH.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Answer: The intracellular and extracellular mechanisms for buffering changes in body pH includes the balancing of the pH of body. The intracellular mechanism includes phosphate. The HP042 is an intracellular mechanism where the concentration of phosphate is comparitvely low in the case of the extracellular fluids. 6.8 is the pK of this mechanism.

Whereas, in the case of the extracellular mechanism, it is mainly influence by the external environment of the living cells. In this bicarbonate plays major role in balancing the body pH.
