The rates of obesity, type II diabetes and metabolic syndrome have increased since HFCS was introduced 30 years ago. Do you feel that HFCS has caused these problems? Justify your answer
According to researchers, the rates of obesity is linked to the High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS), a sweetener made from corn starch. Obesity according to researchers accounts for 80-85% of the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Obese people having a body mass index - BMI - of 30 or greater are up to 80 times more likely to develop type 2 diabetes; than those with a BMI of less than 22. Thus I strongly feel that HFCS has caused these problems of obesity which in turn has lead to increased incidence of diabetes type 2.
