PROTOTYPE:  Acetaldehyde dehydrogenase inhibitor,

HOW THIS MEDICATION WORK

Disulfiram act as an antabuse. Alcohol is converted to acetaldehyde by the action of enzyme acetaldehyde dehydrogenase. Disulfiram inhibit the dehydrogenase enzyme and this causes build up of acetaldehyde in the body and it creat unpleasent effects on body.

PURPOSE FOR MEDICATION

Alcohol abuse. This drug mainly used to treat the alcohol dependence syndrome. And also used to treat substance abuse.

PATIENT EDUCATION

Informed concent should be taken

Instructed the patient to avoid alcohol intake after the treatment with disulfiram. It will cause unpleasent effects on the body.

aution patient against taking CNS depressants during disulfiram therapy.

Teach the patient about the side effects occur due to disulfiram-alcohol reaction.
