The conceptual framework of Orem's Self care theory was considered to framed by Dorotheam Orem from 1959 to 2001.

This theory focuses on the patient's ability to self care on themselves when they are sick. Though they are cared by the nurses the patient involvement is more .The patient identifies their needs and tries to do self care .Ths identification of the needs for self care is called as self-care demands. The work taken by the patient or the active participation of the patient in their self care are grouped into self care agency. In certain cases they will not be able to meet their self care alone and needs a healthcare professionals support where nurse can identify their unsolved needs and help them to achieve it. This theory is very effective in rehabilitation services and in treatibf mental disorder patient with some medical conditions.
