To balance a reaction, we can use the 'n factor' method.

Steps-

1- Find the n factor of the reactant sides

2- Cross multiply with the reactant.

3- Balance no. of oxygens and hydrogen in both reactant and product side by using H2O.

4- Balance charge on both sides.

(Note- Do Step 3 and 4 together.)

Question- MnO4 ^ (-1) + C2O4 ^ (2-)  ------------> Mn^ (+2) + CO2

Sol-   Step 1- n=5 n=2

Step 2- 2MnO4 ^ (-1) + 5C2O4 ^ (2-)  ------------> Mn^ (+2) + CO2 (CROSS MULTIPLY)

Step- 3 and 4 - 16H^ (+) + 2MnO4 ^ (-1) + 5C2O4 ^ (2-)  ------------> 2Mn^ (+2) + 10CO2 + 8H2O.

which is the requied equation.
