Homework Answers

Answer #1

1. Savings: Health care is expensive and wasteful. More than half of all medical expenditure is spent on repetitive processes, correcting human error, delay in care, or delivery. All these traditional methods of transferring information are not only time consuming but also have a risk of generating errors or confusion. With one electronic and connected system, All of this can be reduced. From better delivery of reports, on-time delivery of care, reduction of error.

2. Shared Knowledge: Practice means improving what you do and learning new things along the way. That is the reason why medicine is referred to as practice. Health informatics provides info about patients, diseases, medicines, and treatment which can be easily shared. Knowledge is passed to and fro between providers and patients which makes the practice better which aids in good medical practices and efficient treatment and care to patients.

3. Patient Participation: When a patient is given access to their own healthcare recommendations and health history, They tend to take health care more seriously. This allows patients to learn more about the diagnosis and what treatment they are being given. This is better than reading hard copies and physical reports which a person without a medical background will have difficulty in understanding. Also, the patient will be able to contact doctors and nurses which will yield better results.

4. Increased Co-ordination: Patients, nowadays are receiving care from dozens of individuals in one admission to the hospital. The increase in specialists requires co-ordination which means blood levels, nutrition, physical therapy, pharma, X-rays all need to work simultaneously without any delay. For this, the patient would need to converse with several people in a day which could delay the care and bring up problems. Informatics can be helpful in this by making the necessary co-ordination possible.

5. Improved Outcomes: Informatics is yielding better outcomes. Electronic medical records result in high-quality care and safer care provide better diagnosis and decrease the chance of errors. Cost cutting is possible because Doctors and nurses are able to increase efficiency which frees up time to spend with patients and other manual jobs.
