The lag between the rate at which
research results are produced and research results are
utilized.
The problem of implementing valid
research results in nursing practice is well known. Despite an
accumulating body of knowledge about the effectiveness of some
nursing interventions, a gap often exists between what is known and
what is practised.
As nursing evolves from an
occupation based on tradition to an evidence-based profession,
concerns are being raised about the apparent disconnect between
best practice and actual practice; a concern referred to as the
research-practice gap.
