A nurse is providing education to a client who is to receive misoprostol for induction of labor. What instructions should the nurse include in the teaching?
Misoprostol is a synthetic prostaglandin E,
widely used for the treatment of gastric ulcer in patients taking
non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It has been shown to be a
useful agent for termination of preg-
nancy in the first, second and third trimesters'-3, and more
recently has been used for cervical ripening and induction of
labour.
The nurse should continuously monitoring the patient and ask the patient to inform when contraindication occur. Also instruct the patients that it won't affect the well-being of foetus. Instruct patient that painful contraction will be the result of misoptrostol.
