“Life on the Edge”-Case study
Bianca is a 32-year-old who has been managing a local department store for the past 4 years. She has been divorced or 2 years and has two daughters, 6 and 9 years of age. She is admitted to the psychiatric unit after being brought to the emergency room by her mother who states that her 9-year old granddaughter called and said, “My Mom won’t wake up!” The grandmother hands the nurse an empty bottle containing a label for alprazolam (Xanax). She tells the nurse that her daughter was also drinking alcohol. She states, “Bianca has been drinking more since her divorce. She doesn’t seem to care about herself anymore.”
