HIPAA (The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 ) it is a public law which protects the information of the patients or prevents the disclosure of pt information without pt consent.

protected health information is any kind of information eg, name ethinicity ,gender ,age ,diagnosis etc in a medical record that is used to identify person and is used to provide health care to him .

The requirements for the privacy and security in EHRs making good policies which can check on confidentiality, provide the training to manpower ,clear the bugs , viruses in the system check on hacking , strong coding system etc

Legal and ethical issues related to use of EHRs are that is can pose threat to leaking of pt information hacking , the user should be expert in this field, etc

The major consequences are related to the pt information, the information can be disclosed without pt permission, the measures like making strict rules ,coding, check on electronic bugs etc making strong training, choosing members from within the organization mostly can protect information.
