As the medical assistant in a family practice office you will have to administer injections on a regular basis. How would you make a patient, child or adult, comfortable with the procedure when it is evident that they are scared or uneasy?

METHODS TO COMFORT THE PATIENT

1. DISTRACTION- I will distract patient with meaningful and good conversation(like movies,jokes,hobbies etc).
2. BREATHING EXERCISE- I will ask patient to take deep breath and give injection as patient exhales.during exhalation muscles relax so patient feels less pain.
3. USE APPLIED TENSION
4. For kids and children i will ask them to repeat my statements.
5. Use topical anaesthetics at injection site.
6. Sing with my patient
7. RIGHT INFORMATION-I will tell patient that injection will hurt a little but will do it quickly to lessen pain.
