Liver disease can be defined as any disorder of the liver. Example: Liver cirrhosis, liver failure etc.

The metabolism of the drug takes place in the liver. It is where the drug is converted from one form to the other, in other words biotransformed.This capacity of liver to metabolise drugs depends on hepatic blood flow and liver enzyme activity. This gets affected when the patient has a history of liver disease as it changes the kinetics of the metabolism of the drug. Thus, dosage adjustment for the same is then required
